On the website of the Danish Communication professionals' network 'Kommunikationsforum', you can read about the founding of ProPublica.
Enlightened public discourse and thus democracy itself is under pressure by mis- and disinformation and by limited trust from citizens towards politicians and government officials. Therefore there is a need for trustworthy public communication.
This is what ProPublica's founders told Kommunikationsforum.dk in a news article on the 9th of June.
Kommunikationsforum also write in their article that the founders have found inspiration for ProPublica in, among others, the Danish democracy thinker Hal Koch, who said that conversation is the essence of democracy, and in Jürgen Habermas' thoughts on deliberative democracy.
